Teachers on the RISE Network

RISE has refined its teacher selection model to meet the needs of its partner schools and find those teachers that are more likely to be the "right" fit.  Over the past three program years:

  • RISE has accepted 33% of its applicants, on average.
  • Teachers on the RISE Network have had 4 years of teaching experience in low-income communities, on average.
  • 80% of teachers said the RISE Network exposed them to schools they wouldn't have found otherwise.
RISE Teaching Conditions Survey

Since 2006, RISE has administered the Teaching Conditions Survey (TCS) at partner schools and made that data available to job seekers on the RISE Network.

  • 5,000 teachers at RISE Partner Schools have taken the TCS, to date.
  • 67% of principals believe that the administering and reflecting on the TCS results helped improve teaching conditions at their school.
  • 85% of teachers on the RISE Network viewed the TCS data as a means to determine whether a school would be the "right fit."
Teachers Hired through RISE
  • Teachers on the RISE Network are more satisfied with their job when they find a job at a RISE Partner School.
    • Of the teachers hired at RISE Partner Schools, 90% are satisfied or very satisfied with their school.
    • Of teachers hired outside of RISE, 75% are satisfied or very satisfied with their school.
  • Budget cuts and hiring freezes made it very difficult to place teachers during the 2008-09 program year.

"I like very much that RISE is moving into the school culture arena. RISE’s survey, the resulting analysis (both on paper and with the RISE executive director) and our response all form a powerful tool to change a school culture and to keep it an hospitable place for teachers to teach. RISE is now exercising leverage in this all-important area. I don't believe anyone else is doing this. KUDOS."
